PANIPAT, India Feb 15 (Reuters) - A row over a proposed oil assets deal between Cairn India (CAIL.BO: Quote) and Vedanta Resources (VED.L: Quote) could go to the cabinet for clearance in 2-3 weeks, Indian Oil Minister S. Jaipal Reddy said on Tuesday.
Cairn (CNE.L: Quote) agreed in August to sell up to 51 percent in Cairn India to Vedanta, but the deal has been delayed as issues around royalty payments need to be resolved.
State-owned explorer Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC.BO: Quote) owns a 30 percent stake in some of the assets up for sale but pays 100 percent of the royalties. The oil ministry has said it will protect ONGC's interests.
"That's a huge thing. It is too big for one ministry to decide on it," Reddy told reporters.
