KCM to give scholarships



Vedanta-the holding company of Konkola copper Mines (KCM) will this year give another ten scholarships to Zambians to study at Indian Universities in various disciplines.

This is part of the company’s continued commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Currently, 18 Zambians are studying in India under the auspices of Vedanta.

This came to light when Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Villie Lombanya and six civic leaders and Principle Officers from Kitwe, Chingola, and Chilabombwe, called on Zambia's High Commission to India Darius Bubala in New Delhi on Friday.

The team is in India as guests of Vedanta to familiarize themselves with operations of the conglomerate.

Briefing Ambassador Bubala, Vendanta General Manager for Corporate Affairs Sanjay Karn who accompanied the Zambian delegation said the company is committed to maintaining a strong community social-responsibility policy in Zambia.

And Mr Lombanya described KCM as a true development partner.

Mr.Lombanya said KCM had contributed greatly to the improvement of people’s livelihoods in addition to playing a key role in the educations sector.

And Ambassador Bubala noted that KCM’s economic impact on Zambia is evident and commended Vendanta for its continued investment in the country.

He also commended KCM for assisting TAZARA in the haulage of copper to the Port of Dar-es-salaam in Tanzania.

This is according to a statement released to ZNBC news by First Secretary Press at the Zambian Mission in India, Bwalya Nondo.
