Cairn-Vedanta GoM meet postponed

NEW DELHI: The much-awaited meeting of a Group of Ministers headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukhejree on London-listed mining group Vedanta Resources' USD 9.6 billion acquisition of Cairn India has been postponed.

"The meeting was scheduled for 1930 hours today, but it has now been postponed," a senior government official said.

No reasons were given for the postponement. Besides Mukherjee, the GoM includes Oil Minister S Jaipal Reddy, Law Minister M Veerappa Moily, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia .

"This was the first meeting of the GoM since it was asked by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on April 6 to vet the deal for according government approval," he said.

The ministerial panel was to deliberate on whether Vedanta, with no experience in oil and gas sector, should be given unconditional approval for buying a company that owns the nation's largest onland oil fields or given clearance after attaching reasonable conditions.

NEW DELHI: La rencontre tant attendue d'un groupe de ministres dirigé par le ministre des Finances Pranab sur Mukhejree USD cotée à Londres groupe minier Vedanta Resources 9,6 milliards d'acquisition de Cairn India a été reportée.

"La réunion a été prévue pour 1930 heures aujourd'hui, mais elle a été reportée", un haut fonctionnaire du gouvernement a dit.

Aucune raison n'a été donnée pour le report. Outre Mukherjee, le GdM comprend le ministre du Pétrole S Jaipal Reddy, ministre loi M Veerappa Moily, Telecom ministre Kapil Sibal et la Commission de planification du vice-président Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

"Il s'agissait de la première réunion du GdM, car il a été demandé par le Comité du Cabinet chargé des affaires économiques, le 6 avril pour passer au crible l'accord pour l'attribution d'approbation du gouvernement, dit-il.

Le comité ministériel a été pour délibérer sur si Vedanta, qui n'ont aucune expérience dans le secteur pétrolier et gazier, devrait recevoir l'approbation sans condition pour l'achat d'une entreprise qui possède la plus grande de la nation ou de champs de pétrole onland donné le feu vert après fixation des conditions raisonnables.
