FQM interested to participate in mining and energy conferenc

Australian based and Toronto listed First Quantum Minerals with operations in Zambia, Vale SA and BHP Billiton are among the 30 companies that are willing to participate in this year’s Mining and Energy Conference tentatively earmarked for June this year the first to be hosted by the Southern Africa nation.
The event planned for June14 to17 2011 and to allow exchanging views and discussing pertinent issues of the country’s future among participants has also attracted Baba Drilling and Explorations Company Limited Capital Drilling Aero quest, Nalco, Rare, Demimpex Equipment, Northern West Copro and RENG.
According to a statement, the event is further expected to enable participants to discuss and conclude, recommend for the increasing the value that can be added to Zambia’s natural resources and a better contribution to the mining and energy sectors in the economic and social development in the copper-rich Southern African nation. The meeting dubbed ZIMEC 2011 will consist of two days of plenary sessions, technical workshops and exhibitions and will be expected to be held in the Zambian capital Lusaka at Mulungushi Conference Centre.
Mr Laura Sitzia project co coordinator said that the ministry of mines, Association of Zambian Minerals Exploration Companies, the chamber of mines and other companies coming from the United Kingdom. Other companies expected to participate in the 2 day event include leading miner, Phelps Dodge, Zambia Mines, SGS, Sandvik, Apollo International Limited, Geoquest Limited, Geotech, Geo Explore Store and ALS Minerals. Innov X Africa and EGA Master, Yokogawa, Set Point AND Liquid Rock are among other companies that have indicated willingness to take part.
Local companies include Zambia Metal Fabricators, manufacturers of copper cables, Gemfields, General cables, Ndola Lime Company, manufacturers of Lime, the solvent and acid neutralizer used in mining of copper and other base metals as well as Atlas Copco. The ZIMEC meeting of 2011 has been described as unique in that all participants will be afforded an opportunity to discover Zambia, the mining, energy and petroleum potential including discussing challenges of developing projects relating to the exploration and extraction of Zambia’s natural resources.
According to the program, participants will be afforded a chance to undertake a field trip to Zambia’s mining and electricity hubs or tourist excursions to some of the country’s scenic locations. The event will attract international investors, mining experts, directors of financial institutions, Zambian decision makers, development partners, donors including other actors and partners in the mining, petroleum and energy industries.
