First Quantum Minerals To Build Copper Smelter In Zambia

SANTIAGO -(Dow Jones)- First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FM.T, FQVLF) will build a copper smelter at its Kansanshi mine in Zambia, company President Clive Newall said Wednesday.
The smelter, with a capacity of 1.2 million metric tons of production a year, will also process concentrates from the company's nearby planned Sentinel mine.
Once on line in 2014, Sentinel will produce around 300,000 tons of copper a year, Newall said during his presentation at the 10th annual World Copper Conference.
