Ndola Lime terminates Wade Adams’ contract

NDOLA Lime Company has terminated a contract awarded to Wade Adams Filing and Foundation Zambia Limited after the company allegedly failed to meet deadline requirements.

Wade Adams Filing and Foundation was awarded several contracts but that it failed to meet deadlines on the works at the vertical kiln support.

Corporate affairs officer Muka Meleki confirmed the termination of the contract saying it had since been awarded to a company called Wha Kong.

Ms Meleki, however, said that Wade Adams Filing and Foundation would continue works on the 11 KV sub -station and the packing and bagging plant.

On Tuesday, Wade Adams Filing and Foundation workers staged a protest over three months salary arrears and “impounded” two company vehicles.

The firm was engaged on a recapitalisation project to carry out civil works on the new installations.

But the irate workers grabbed keys of a Mitsubishi Pajero registration number A LC 4479 and a Nissan ALC 2805 and locked them inside the offices.

They vowed not to release the cars until they were paid their three months salary arrears.

Wade Adams Project site manager Paul Mpabalwani refused to comment, but only indicated that the matter would be handled through a company lawyer.

But a spokesperson for the workers Brian Chola said Wade Adams, owned by politician Ben Mwila, had not been paying the workers for the past three months.

THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested politician, Ben Mwila's wife for money laundering and issuing cheques on an insufficiently-funded account

Margaret Kakungu Lombe Mwila, 50, of Plot Number 9721 Chudleigh in Lusaka, has been arrested together with a finance manager of Wade Adams Piling and Foundations Zambia Limited.

DEC public relations officer, Samuel Silomba, who announced the development in a statement in Lusaka yesterday said Mrs Mwila has been arrested and jointly charged with Hartwell Chazya Sikaundi, 67, of Flat No.4 Impala Court Northmead, for issuing two cheques on an insufficiently funded account.

The charge they are facing is contrary to Section 33 (i) of the National Payment Systems Act No. 1 of 2007.

It is alleged that the two, in their capacities as Director and Finance Manager, respectively, of Wade Adams Piling and Foundations Zambia Ltd, wilfully, dishonestly and with intent to defraud, issued two cheques amounting to K70 million on an insufficiently-funded account as payment for two motor vehicles from Tokyo Vehicles Limited.

The vehicles are a Toyota Nadia and a Nissan Datsun Pickup. DEC on Wednesday interrogated Mr Mwila in connection with the same issue.

Mr Silomba said the suspects would appear in court soon.
