ZCCM-IH to deal with Collum Coal Mine pending issues

14 Janvier

Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Investment Holdings (ZCCM-IH) is hopeful that before the end of this month they will be able to resolve all the pending issues with the former owners of Collum Coal Mine.

Government in 2013 seized control of the Chinese-owned coal company due to poor compliance with safety and environmental standards and handed it over to ZCCM-IH.

ZCCM-IH Chief Executive Officer Pius Kasolo says the Chinese owners will have to resolve their revocation of the license with government through the Ministry of Mines so that the mining company can be operational once again.

Dr. Kasolo says ZCCM-IH is paying close to K1.2 million salaries per month for the workers who are looking after the mine.

He adds that they are still negotiating with the former owners of the mine to see how best the coal mine can be revamped and create employment for the local people.
