LUANSHYA District Commissioner Michael Tandeo has said sitting tenants in the former Roan Antelope Mine of Zambia (RAMCOZ) and ZCCM houses, will next week receive the amended offer letters to purchase the homes at a 50 per cent reduced price.

Mr Tandeo said in an interview that the he had reliable information that the offer letters would be ready and distributed by next week to all the concerned houses.

He said as per presidential directive, amended offer letters were being worked out by the RAMCOZ administrator general and ZCCM-Investment Holdings, to cut the previous price of the houses by half.

“We are awaiting the amended letters and it should be known that even the houses under the ZCCM-IH are also included in the Presidential directive,” he said.

Mr Tandeo said there were 1, 115 that were directly linked to the presidential directive for a 50 per cent price cut.

He said there were 65 former RAMCOZ and 1, 050 former ZCCM houses, whose offer letters were being revised.

Mr Tandeo said the revised offer letters for both sets of houses, would be issued during the same period.

He said he was happy that people had remained calm during the period since President Banda gave the directive last month.

And Tenants’ representative Francis Mulenga said as leaders, they had ensured that people had remained calm in waiting for the process to be completed.

Mr Mulenga said the ultimate benefit from the reduced prices was more important to the tenants and that they were willing to wait longer.
