Katoka-Mema Mine stayed

The Lusaka High Court has stayed government’s decision to grant the Kasempa Community a mineral prospection License for the Katoka-Mema Mine in Kasempa.

This follows an application for judicial review by Avarmma Mining Company Limited, the Russian investors holding licence number 16199, granted in 2011 and renewed on July 2nd, 2014.

High Court Judge Bobo Banda has directed that the order shall operate as a stay of the decision of the state until the final determination of the application for Judicial review.

In this matter the Attorney General has been sued as first respondent while ZCCM Investment Holdings are the second Respondent.

The Russian firm contends that the decision by Mines Minister Christopher Yaluma is illegal and irregular.

The Russian firm is being represented by F.B. Nanguzyambo and Associates.

Government gave the people of Kasempa a large scale prospecting mining license to enable them carry out exploration of minerals in the Katoka-meema area.

Mines Minister Christopher Yaluma said the first ever community prospecting license will help bring development to the district.
