Maamba to offload 150MW in June

THE US$840 million Maamba Collieries coal-fired power plant with capacity of producing 300 megawatts (MW) of electricity will be commissioned by President Lungu in June this year.
The addition of 300MW to the national electricity grid will help reduce the power deficit that the country is experiencing.
Special assistant to the President for projects monitoring and implementation Lucky Mulusa said in Maamba yesterday that once fully operational, the Maamba power plant will help Government to reduce on power importation costs which stand at US$15 million per month.
“This project is very critical to Zambia, for development and cost-saving and more importantly to mitigate the current load-shedding problem. Maamba Collieries is expected to generate 300MW power, the first 150MW by June and the second by end of July,” Mr Mulusa said.
Mr Mulusa also said the country will save an estimated US$500,000 every day when the Maamba Collieries Limited power plant is commissioned. http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
