Equinox Minerals is eyeing an expansion of copper ore from its Lumwana mine in Zambia.
Equinox Minerals is eyeing an expansion of copper ore from its Lumwana mine in Zambia, hoping to build it up to 35 million tonnes a year.
The company, which is listed on both the Australian and Canadian stock exchanges, is currently ramping up the mine to 20 million tonnes a year of ore throughput.
It is expecting to reach that target by the second half of this year.
The company's CEO, Craig Williams says the expansion will come in two phases and is likely to take between three and five years.
The mine is in Zambia's north western province and started commercial production back in April 2009.
It's slated to produce 135,000 tons in 2010 and is the largest individual copper mine to come on-stream in the last three years.
