KCM happy with talks
Konkola Copper Mines-KCM-management has described as fruitful the current negotiations with unions on improved conditions of service for miners.
KCM Head of Corporate Affairs, Rahul Kharkhar says discussions between management and the unions are progressing well despite the earlier break down in talks.
Mr. Kharkhar has advised individual unions against rushing to the press to issue statements before the talks are concluded.
He has also disclosed that about 20 miners who appealed against dismisals for their involvement in violent protests recently have had their appeals thrown out.
He however says some miners have been reinstated after successfully appealing against their dismissal.
Two unions representing miners last week declared a despute following managements refusal to meet their demand.
The unions are asking for more than three percent salary increase offered by government.
