KCM to commission Zambia-based Konkola Deep copper project b

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) will start the trial run of the bottom shaft loading facility at its Konkola Deep Mining (KDM) project in Zambia this week and aims to commission the entire $1-billion project by the end of this month.

KCM has sunk the deepest shaft in Zambia at KDMP to access a tier one copper ore body at a depth of over a kilometre. KDMP gives access to 7.5 million tpy of ore and is expected to expand the unit’s overall copper output to more than 400,000 tpy from the current 210,000 tpy of finished copper. “We are currently trial commissioning the bottom shaft loading at the end of this week in preparation for commissioning of the project end of the month.
