By Business Reporter

ALBIDON Limited, owners of the shut Munali Nickel Mine in Mazabuka is still working on concluding a deal with a potential equity partner to help revive operations at the Zambian-based mine.

Albidon Limited company secretary Noel McAuliffe said in a statement posted on the company website that the resolve to have a third party partner for the mine was still on and that discussions were still in progress.

He said his company remained committed to the revival of the mine, which was shut late in November last year and which is the sole nickel producer in the country.

“Albidon continues to seek to reach a transaction agreement with third parties as previously announced. As part of the process, the third party previously announced continues to progress with the due diligence review.

“During this time, the parties have continued to discuss regulatory, technical, commercial and transactional issues which will impact on the transaction,” Mr McAuliffe said.

After acquiring the Munali Nickel Mine, the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) listed Albidon encountered operational problems which resulted in the finding of a new partner to recapitalise the mine.

The new partner who helped bring the mine back to life in 2009 was in form of Jinchuan Group of China who took up 51 per cent of the shares. the nickel mine.
