Vale has announced that it has started producing copper at its Konkola North project, a joint venture with African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) in Zambia´s copperbelt.
“We hope that the operation in the African copperbelt creates value for our stakeholders in the long term, contributing to the expansion of our growth platform in copper”, said Vale in a statement.

The first copper concentrate from Konkola North was produced in October 4, after the conclusion of the processing plant´s commissioning, the Brazilian mining company said.

Konkola North has a capacity of 45,000 tpy of copper concentrate.

The second phase of the greenfield project will involve the expansion of the current mine development and of the copper processing plant.

Konkola North is aiming for a total output of 100,000 tpy of copper concentrate in the coming years, according to MB´s sources.
