MCM to spend K10b on roads

Mopani Copper Mine is to spend Ten million United States Dollars to rehabilitate roads in some townships in Kitwe.

The roads to be worked on are in Chibuluma, Mindola and Central Street roads in Kitwe.

Kitwe City Council Public Relations Officer Dorothy Sampa says the mining company has agreed to carry out full rehabilitations of the roads after discussions between Mopani Copper Mine management and the Roads Development Agency -RDA.

Ms Sampa told ZNBC News on Wednesday that works on the six point seven kilometres stretch of the roads from Nkana east Traffic lights to Kitwe Fire Brigade roundabout will start next week.

She says the mining company will carry out the roads repair as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.

Ms Sampa says the roads have been re-designed to include the removal of the current traffic lights at Nkana east/Ndola road junction and will be replaced with a roundabout.
