Tourism Minister CATHERINE NAMUGALA has told parliament that MOPANI Copper mines has exhausted indigenous trees and bamboos in its mining operations.
This came to light after MWENSE MP JACOB CHONGO expressed alarm at the depletion of trees and bamboos in some parts of the Copperbelt where MOPANI is conducting mining operations.
Meanwhile government spent K21 billion on rehabilitating district hospitals countrywide in 2010.
Health Deputy Minister CHRISTOPHER KALILA says two billion Kwacha was spent in the Northern Province.
He was responding to CHILUBI MP OBBY CHISALA who wanted to know how much government spent on rehabilitating hospitals last year.
Meanwhile the Food Reserve Agency spent over eight billion Kwacha on renting storage sheds every year.
Agriculture Deputy Minister ALLAN MBEWE has informed Parliament.
FRA has also set aside funds to rehabilitate and construct sheds to cut down on costs.
Mr MBEWE says FRA is currently renting 78 storage sheds.
He said the Agency is currently stocking two hundred thousand metric tonnes of maize in the sheds.
