Two miners die, one injured in underground rock fall

TWO miners at Mufulira’s Mopani Copper Mine have died while the third one is battling for his life in Malcom Moffat hospital after a rock fell on them underground.

And two people have died on the Kafue River in Kitwe after a Hippo hit their canoe forcing it to capsize.

Copperbelt police chief Dr Martin Malama confirmed in an interview that Bright Mfula and Ernest Nkonde died underground due to a rock crash while the third person, yet to be identified was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.

“Yesterday in Mufulira at about 15:30 hours we lost two miners underground who died due to a rock crash, the third person is still admitted to Malcom Moffat hospital, it’s very unfortunate that the nation continues to lose people with families due to accidents, it is really sad, but as police, we are still waiting for a full report from the mining company,” said Dr Malama.

And Dr Malama disclosed that on October 1, 2010 a man and his son went missing as the tried to cross the Kafue River from Musonda village zone 2 to another village when they were hit by a hippo which had been terrorizing residents lately.

Deux mineurs de cuivre Mopani à Mufulira contre les mines ont trouvé la mort tandis que le tiers se bat pour sa vie à l'hôpital après Malcolm Moffat un rocher est tombé sur les souterrains.

Et deux personnes sont mortes sur la rivière Kafue à Kitwe après un hippopotame ont atteint leur canot le forçant à chavirer.

Copperbelt chef de la police Dr Martin Malama a confirmé dans une interview que Bright Mfula et Ernest Nkonde morts souterrain en raison d'un accident de rock tandis que la troisième personne, pas encore identifié a été admis à l'hôpital avec des blessures graves.

"Hier, à Mufulira à environ 15:30 heures, nous avons perdu deux mineurs de fond qui est décédé suite à un plantage de roche, la troisième personne est toujours admis à l'hôpital Malcolm Moffat, il est très regrettable que la nation continue de perdre des gens avec des familles en raison d'accidents, il est vraiment triste, mais que la police, nous sommes toujours en attente d'un rapport complet de la compagnie minière », a déclaré le Dr Malama.

Et le Dr Malama a révélé que sur 1 Octobre 2010, un homme et son fils a disparu comme a tenté de traverser la rivière Kafue de la zone village Musonda 2 à un autre village où ils ont été frappés par un hippopotame qui avait été terroriser les résidents récents.
