Neelkanth Lime plans to export to DRC
MASAITI-BASED Neelkanth Lime Company is planning to start exporting its lime products to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) once the construction of its US$10 million processing plant is completed.
Company director Girish Ayah said in an interview in Ndola yesterday that his firm had started the production of lime which was now being sold on the Zambian market and wanted to start exporting to the DRC and other neighbouring countries.
“Our sister company Neelkanth Lime Tanzania Limited which is based in Tanga town is exporting its lime products to the DRC but we feel that it will make business sense to have lime produced in Zambia exported to the DRC because it is nearer here than Tanzania,” he said.
Mr Ayah said Neelkanth Lime plant would have an initial production capacity of 500 tonnes per day once it becomes fully operational early next year.
He said the company’s initial investment was in 34 brick kilns which would all be operational by February 2013 and the number of kilns would increase as the market demand continued to grow.
Neelkanth Lime has since started processing the lime mined at its premises using the brick kilns which had a capacity to produce 15 tonnes of lime per day.
“We are efficient in delivering to our clients and there is growing demand for our products because they have a high percentage of lime,” he said.
According to Mr Ayah, Chambeshi Mine on the Copperbelt is one of the major clients of Neelkanth Lime and the country has continued to receive enquiries from some of the leading copper mines in the country.
