Lime set to up production
NDOLA Lime Company is ready to commission a new crushing plant this month which will increase production levels, acting general manager Abraham Witika has said.
And Ndola Lime Company has broken the 16 year record of producing 173,000 tonnes of quicklime per year.
Mr Witika who was speaking at the just ended 54th Copperbelt Agriculture, Mining and Commercial Show (CMACS) in Kitwe said the US$ 1 million worth crusher will result in an increase in terms of production.
He said the company expected to double production in the next five years in line with the anticipated increased demand.
The demand for quicklime was high both locally and regionally as the company was supplying four mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He said Ndola Lime was also supplying Malawi and occasionally to Zimbabwe and that there were indications that more would be required from DRC and Malawi.
Mr Witika said with two kilns, the company was able to satisfy the demand when both were operational.
The financial year which ended in March this year broke the 16 year record of producing 173,000 tonnes of quicklime.
The company had already started installing new vertical kilns for production of quicklime and the hydrator for production of hydrated lime.
The project would ensure increased capacity, reliability of the plant and it would enable the company operate within the environmental laws.
“We are currently working on the recapitalisation project, because of the new mines which are coming on stream such as Muliashi which will need lime,” Mr Witika said.
He said the company was also undertaking exploration within the mining licensing area to ensure it had enough raw materials to satisfy demand.
