Cement plant plans shelved

By Business Reporter

NDOLA Lime Company has shelved plans to set up a cement plant in Ndola, despite a feasibility study indicating the business would be viable.

Ndola Lime acting general manager, Abraham Witika said in an interview that a feasibility study conducted in 2007 over the company’s interest in setting up a cement plant showed positive indicators but the project would have to wait.

Mr Witika said the decision to shelve the cement plant project was made to let the company consolidate and improve capacity of its core business of limestone production.

“We have decided to shelve the setting up of a cement plant because we want to concentrate on our core business, which is limestone. We want to set our priorities right and improve production and also recapitalise our institution,” he said.
