NDOLA Lime Company Limited head of processing Joseph Chishimba has disclosed that the completion of the rehabilitation works at the company’s rotary kiln will boost production to 850 tonnes of lime per day.

In an interview at the just-ended Zambia International Trade Fair, Chishimba said the company spent US $3.5 million on the massive rehabilitation of the kiln’s dust abatement system which is expected to boost production at the company.

He said the rehabilitated rotary kiln which had not been in operation would enable the company to recapture kiln dust.

Chishimba said kiln dust had readily available market, and the re-commissioning of the project would meet the demand of the Ndola Lime products by various mining operations and industries in Zambia and other foreign markets.

He said with the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated kiln, Ndola Lime was currently running two kilns to meet the demands of the market.

Chishimba said the company had received overwhelming demand for quick lime as a result of increased copper production in the mining sector.

He said the recapitalisation programme that Ndola Lime had embarked on would see the company bringing in a third kiln.

Chishimba further said the company was projecting to produce about 288,000 tonnes per annum by 2013 once the third kiln was installed.

He said Ndola Lime achieved 130,946 tonnes the last financial year ended March 31, with demand for the 2010/2011 period projected at 222,000 tonnes.

Chishimba said the focus of the company was to have excess capacity in the production of lime by introducing a third rotary kiln in order to meet the demands of both local and foreign markets.

He disclosed that currently, the company was exporting 3,000 tonnes of kiln dust to Chemaf Mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and 2,500 tonnes of quick lime to Katanga Mine per month.

Chishimba said the huge demand for lime, especially by large mining operations such as Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) and the mines in the DRC, had prompted the company to embrace innovation and to introduce various products to meet the requirements of the market.
