By ALEX NJOVU
CHAMBISHI Metals chief executive officer Derek Webbstock says the future of the company is more secure than ever before and assured Government that the firm will continue implementing projects aimed at creating jobs in Chambishi and surrounding areas.
“The future of Chambishi Metals is more secure than ever before and we would like to thank our stakeholders that supported us during the global economic recession.
“We want to assure government and the community that we are committed to our corporate social responsibility programmes and to creating job opportunities for the local people,” Mr Webbstock said.
He said the company has put in place workable polices to ensure that it continues with its viable activities even if metal prices go down.
Mr Webbstock said in an interview on Thursday in Chambishi when Kalulushi mayor Evaristo Mwalilino officially commissioned St. Nicholas Community School in Zambia compound.
He assured Government that the company will continue creating job opportunities for the local people and that it is not true that Chambishi Metals prefers getting its materials from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“It is not true what we have been reading in the press that we prefer getting our materials from Democratic Republic of Congo. It is because Luanshya Copper Mines (LCM) is still establishing itself.
“We want to assure our people in Chambishi and surrounding areas that we will continue coming up with projects that will create job opportunities for our people,” he said.
Mr Webbstock said production started in November and that the company will continue working with stakeholders in fostering development in Kalulushi.
He said the future of the company looks bright and that management will remain focused towards implementing programmes that will sustain the operations of Chambishi Metals.
He also said the company has spent over K5 billion in rehabilitating and renovating St. Nicholas since 2004.
Mr Webbstock also said the firm spends about K 600 million per year in meeting different needs of the community school
And Kalulushi mayor Evaristo Mwalilino commended the company for its continued contribution to the development of the country’s economy.
Mr Mwalilino also called on the government to help Chambishi Metals each time it is faced with different challenges.
Kalulushi district education board secretary Marianh Simpande also commended the company for its positive contribution to the education sector in the area.
