NFC Invests K700 Million in South-East Ore

NON-FERROUS Mining Company of Africa (NFCA) plans to invest US$700 million in the south east ore body copper project in order to improve production.

NFCA Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Xu Ruiyong said the investment would create 3, 000 more jobs for the local people.

"The company is investing US$700million in the South East Ore Body because it is a big project that would create employment and contribute to the growth of the mining sector," he said.

Mr Xu announced this when the company donated K86 million for sponsorship of 18 Copperbelt University (CBU) students and K30 million to Kalulushi District Health Management Team for public health programmes.

He said the investment that NFCA was injecting in the south east ore body was an indication that the company was in Zambia to contribute to the economic growth and national development.

"We are in Zambia as partners in development and so this is why we are embarking on big projects like the south east ore body where we will inject US$700million. This is a big project which would increase production and create more than 3,000 jobs," he said.

Mr Xu said his company would continue to create employment for the local people and urged them to support the company by being security conscious and adhering to safety regulations.

He said it was imperative that both the employees and the workers focused on achieving increased production and maintaining high security and safety standards.

"Our interest is to create employment and increase production, but let me emphasise that we should also ensure that we maintain safety and security standards in our operations. It is not good to lose lives through accidents out of negligence or carelessness," He said.

On the Corporate Social Responsibility, Mr Xu said his company would continue to plough back to the community in its areas of operation.

He said his company would always support sectors like health and education because Zambia needs an educated and health population to take the country forward.
